To be of use

The people I love the best
jump into work head first
without dallying in the shallows
and swim off with sure strokes almost out of sight.
They seem to become natives of that element,
the black sleek heads of seals
bouncing like half submerged balls.
I love people who harness themselves, an ox to a heavy cart,
who pull like water buffalo, with massive patience,
who strain in the mud and the muck to move things forward,
who do what has to be done, again and again.

I want to be with people who submerge
in the task, who go into the fields to harvest
and work in a row and pass the bags along,
who stand in the line and haul in their places,
who are not parlor generals and field deserters
but move in a common rhythm
when the food must come in or the fire be put out.
The work of the world is common as mud.
Botched, it smears the hands, crumbles to dust.
But the thing worth doing well done
has a shape that satisfies, clean and evident.
Greek amphoras for wine or oil,
Hopi vases that held corn, are put in museums
but you know they were made to be used.
The pitcher cries for water to carry
and a person for work that is real.

  1. What a gutsy, heartfelt sentiment Marge Piercy carries here.. and haven't we all felt that way one time or another? To use the hands to get the work done.. is that becoming a rarer experience for us today?

Heights of Reality in the UAE

Aside from ( double Disney) Dubailand , it is quite easy to locate a bold philosophy within the inspiration for many of the UAE's newest structures. Perhaps claims of Islamic inspiration a bit stretched with one of the main principles, "avoiding extremes so as to maintain balance and orderliness..." But then again, if you look at the region's dreams of rebuilding the future and the world as we know it, Dubai will host plenty of places to celebrate Islam's essence, which "enables man to lead a good and happy life and at the same time strengthens bonds of human brotherhood and fortifies the social fabric." I find it fascinating to watch so many levels of fantasy coming to life, so quickly. Several inspiration quotes appear in the captions below. Hydropolis , the world's first luxury underwater hotel, "where those who do not dive, or do not even swim, can experience the tranquility and inspiration of the underwater world." Burj Dubai ,

Daydream believers

Colorado Balloon Classic - Day 2 , originally uploaded by iceman9294 . “Some people do not have to search, for they find their niche early in life and rest there seemingly contented and resigned. At times, I envy them but usually I do not understand them… And seldom do they understand me. I am one of those searchers. There are, I believe, millions of us. We are not unhappy, but neither are we completely content. We continue to explore ourselves, hoping to understand. We like to walk along the beach; we are drawn to the ocean, taken by its power and unceasing motion, its mystery and unspeakable beauty. We like forests, mountains, deserts, hidden rivers, and lovely cities as well. Our sadness is as much a part of our lives as our laughter. We are ambitious only for life itself and for anything beautiful it can provide. Most of all, we want to love and be loved, to live in a relationship that will not impede our wanderings and prevent our search. We do not want to prove ourselves to other

Shiva Rae is at it again - creative, innovative, and surrendered - such a wave. Amazing how divine design take it's course when given the cue. "Being an artist is dragging your innermost feelings out, giving a piece of yourself, no matter in which art form, in which medium." Henry Rollins True love comes to those who wait; it comes so much faster to those who take a chance. Thus, I don't chase my dreams; I chase my God, the designer my dreams.
